A Screen Acting Workshop
This 45 minute practical demonstration will show how a camera sees you think, why film is different to theatre and how the lens bends space. Tips for confidence, voice and camera skills thrown in. This taster workshop will use camera and monitor to inspire you to work with, what Martin Scorsese calls, 'The psychic strength of the lens.'
Mel Churcher was an actor for many years but now works as a director and international acting and voice coach. Her theatre voice work includes The RSC, Shakespeare’s Globe and The Open Air Theatre, Regent’s Park, where she was resident voice and text coach from 1996 to 2007. Mel has coached on dozens of major movies including The Lady, The Door, Control, The Count of Monte Cristo, King Arthur, The Fifth Element, The Hole, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Tristan & Isolde and Danny the Dog/Unleashed; working with actors like Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh, Angelina Jolie, Clive Owen, Daniel Craig and Keira Knightley. She runs regular film acting workshops in London and abroad. She has an MA in Performing Arts (Mddx), and Voice Studies (CSSD). She has written two books. Her first, which is now required reading for many drama schools and universities is:Acting for Film: Truth 24 Times a Second (Virgin Books) and her latest one is: A Screen Acting Workshop + DVD (Nick Hern Books). www.melchurcher.com
